My name is Barbi Larkins. I design things.

Creativity is kind of like a kid (which is probably why kids are so good at it). Creativity needs to be fed if you want it to grow. I’ve been feeding my creativity all of my life.

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Commercial Art, polished up for the 21st Century with Certificates in Web Design and Marketing Design. I am currently Marketing Coordinator for Tennis Canterbury, where I manage the website, social media (including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and — God help us! — Snapchat) and organise events to promote the sport of tennis to the region. Recent events have been the post-earthquake re-establishment of the Canterbury Open and the Love Tennis regional open day, which combined the efforts of 19 tennis clubs across the region into one city-wide event.

I have recently worked as Marketing Specialist at Gough Group, where I created print and digital advertising for Caterpillar products. My role also included writing editorial copy for trade magazines and planning of trade show displays.

I am a freelance graphic designer and illustrator under my business label, Be Marketing Design, where I specialise in website design and branding for small business. I am proudly based in Christchurch, New Zealand, but also enjoy working with international clients.

An artist at heart and an active member of Arts Canterbury, my “free time” is usually spent with paintbrush in hand. I love to work in acrylics. You will find my full art portfolio on www.BarbiLarkins.art. Like me on Facebook.

My abilities in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign are excellent. I also have skills in Adobe Premier (video editing) and Animate (animation) software, offering an edge in the important video requirements of today’s online marketplace. I am experienced in a wide variety of website CMS and can hand code HTML. I am also familiar with most modes of social media. I have successfully raised the online profile of Tennis Canterbury with the redevelopment of their website (www.CanterburyTennis.co.nz) and the organic growth of their public Facebook page from 94 to more than 750 followers within a year. I have also contributed to the growth of Arts Canterbury with the redesign of their website (www.ArtsCanterbury.org.nz) to showcase the work of nearly 200 artists, and with the establishment of their Facebook and Instagram presence.

As well as being a life-long student of design, I am also a veteran of business. My years of experience on a business front have given me an appreciation of business needs and deadlines, as well as some wicked skills in Microsoft Office.
